Here are 3 word pairs that commonly used incorrectly

1. Wedding vs. Marriage – these cannot be used interchangeably. A marriage is a long term relationship between two individuals. A wedding, on the other hand, is the ceremony of getting married.
Therefore, “You are invited to my wedding.” is correct and “You are invited to my marriage”. is incorrect usage.

“Their marriage was a disaster.” implies that the couple was not happy in their life together and are probably separated or divorced. On the other hand, “Their wedding was a disaster.“ implies that something happened during the wedding and that the ceremony did not go smoothly.

इसलिए, “You are invited to my wedding.” सही है और “You are invited to my marriage”.

“Their marriage was a disaster.” दूसरी ओर, ‘Their wedding was a disaster.’

2. Weather vs. climate: Climate is the average weather usually taken over a 30-year time period for a particular region and time period. Climate is not the same as weather, but rather, it is the average pattern of weather for a particular region. Weather describes the short-term state of the atmosphere.

For example: “The weather is great today” is correct but, “the climate is great today” is not correct.

उदाहरण के लिए: “The weather is great today” सही है, लेकिन, “the climate is great today” सही नहीं है।)

3. Hear vs. Listen: ‘Hearing’ is an event; it is something which happens to us as a natural process even if we are not trying to pay attention. ‘Listening’ is an action; it is something we do consciously. When we listen, we try to hear. We pay attention and try to understand every sound.

For example: i) I heard a knock at the door.
ii) I listened very carefully to what she said and wrote it all down.

उदाहरण के लिए: i) I heard a knock at the door.
ii) I listened very carefully to what she said and wrote it all down.
